4106 Penticton Street |

Hello, I finally got a chance today to drive by 4106 Penticton St. in Vancouver and see if the home where Les Dawes built the very first La Dawri , was still around. As I drove up Penticton street I could only see for the most part homes built in mid 1960's style but there at the corner was the original house of the La Dawri. I assumed the house had probably gone through a few updates but the basic old structure was there. As I took the picture a young man in a pickup drove by and I asked him if there was any people around from the early 1950's still and he pointed to a small place basically across the street. |

I walked over and knocked on the front door and an elderly man opened the door and I said hello, and I asked him if he remembered a young man across the street back in the early 50's with a red sports car ? Well, as it turned out, 89 year old Mr. Harley Lawrence Reid of 2596 East 25th built his house in 1950 and most certainly does remember Les and the sports car. Mr. Reid says he recalls the car roaring to life and driving around and one of his two son's who just turned 60 use to go over and watch him and this was where his interest in cars first started. Mr. Reid recalls just how enthusiastic Les was and was not surprised to hear that he made a name for himself in the business, he said I could tell then he had a lot of drive. Attached are two pictures one of 4106 Penticton St. and one of Mr. Reid from across the street. Thanks Don Blair. |
