Jon, I think they were a good choice for the times as the striker is
fairly thin and won't catch on clothes when entering the car. These
fit many 1955-56 Fords and Mercurys & 57 T-birds.
The original parts numbers are as follows: (LT) striker = #B6A-7022008-A (RT) striker= #B6A-7022009-A
(RT) latch #B6A-7021812-B (LT) latch #B6A-7021813-B Hugh |
Hi
Jon, The Devin SSs used Austin-Healey Sprite Bugeye latches. I also
adapted a set for my old Bocar XP-5. You can also buy them new from
Moss or other sources. I don't know if the Mk.II Sprite/MG Midget
used the same latches or not. I don't know how similar MGA latches are to Sprite, maybe the same.
Since the Sprite came out in 1959, the Devin latches might have
originally been MGA instead of Sprite after all. I would check them
both out before settling on one. I can tell you that MGB trunk
hinges make excellent door hinges for fabricated jobs. Devin made
his own hinges for doors on the SS and kit cars. The SS had no hood
or trunk hinges (they were pinned in place). The kit bodies and the
C and D had cast hinges for the doors, hood and trunk. Harold Pace |

Above is pictured an early Devin ad. ..July and Oct 1956-- the first
full sales year of the MGA. Its not uncommon for low run body-builders to find an available part and use it as long as available.
(if you had a 1940 Packard Woody by Hercules, you were latched-in
with 1939 Pontiac door hardware) Later Devin ads show pictures of some
of these bits that could be purchased with the basic body. |
